Definitive Surgical Trauma Care
For Qualified Surgeons and Advanced Trainees

The Definitive Surgical Trauma Care Course (DSTC) is an invigorating, exciting opportunity to focus on surgical decision-making and surgical operative technique in critically ill trauma patients.
The two-day course will provide you with an opportunity of working with experts in the field, including an International Faculty of leaders in trauma care.
You will have hands on practical experience with experienced instructors. This unique surgical operative laboratory will give you insight into difficult trauma situations with vascular isolation and ability to handle major thoracic, cardiac and abdominal injuries.
Small surgical teams of four will operate under the guidance of a national and international Faculty. The DSTC course has been widely acclaimed and twenty-six courses have been undertaken so far in Australia and New Zealand.

This educational activity has been approved in the Royal Australian College of Surgeons CPD Program. Fellows who participate can claim one point per hour (maximum 18 points) in Category 4: Maintenance of Clinical Knowledge and Skills towards 2008 CPD totals.
This educational activity has also been accredited with ACRRM’s Professional Development Program for 17 core and 10 extended skills points and is accredited for the Rural and Remote Procedural Grant under Emergency Medicine and Surgery.

The DSTC course is recommended by the RACS for all surgeons involved in the management of major trauma.
The course is designed to assist surgeons in their involvement in acute surgery and decisions relating to serious trauma. It assumes all of the ATLS/EMST principles and builds on it. If EMST deals with the “first hour”, this course will deal with the “second hour”.
The Definitive Perioperative Nurses Trauma Care Course (DPNTC) is aimed at registered nurses with experience in perioperative nursing, and allows them to develop these skills in a similar setting.
The Military Module is an optional third day for interested surgeons and Australian Defence Force Personnel.
